Date Released - 07/05/2024

DRESSES and dishes from a range of cultures are at the heart of a cultural day event the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Tafheen Sharif, is staging in aid of her charity appeal.

Organised in partnership with the Umeed (Hope) Women’s Group, it takes place at Dukinfield Town Hall on Friday May 17 (1 to 4pm – ladies only for the last hour) with tickets priced at £5. Tasty food from various cultures will be available.

The Mayor said: “I love bringing people together through sharing our common humanity to build love and understanding.

“We have many communities in Tameside and my ‘Dresses and Dishes’ event is a celebration of all they have to offer and everything they bring and contribute to our wonderful borough.

“My term of office as civic mayor is drawing to a close and I want to make my cultural day a really special way of marking the end of my year and providing a final boost to my charity appeal.

“I offer the warmest of invitations for people to join me at Dukinfield Town Hall on May 17. Everyone is welcome.”

Admission is available on the door but tickets can be bought in advance by emailing mayorsoffice@tameside.gov.uk

All proceeds will go to the Civic Mayor’s charity appeal fund which comprises Home-Start (HOST), which offers expert support to families with young children that are going through difficult times; West African Development, which helps ethnic minority communities in Tameside, and We Shall Overcome, an organisation providing support for the homeless.
